Breast Surgery (Augmentation Mammoplasty)

Breast augmentation is the surgical placement of implants to enlarge a naturally small breast, restore volume lost following pregnancy and breast feeding or weight loss, or correct the symmetry of the breasts. Breast implant surgery does not correct severely sagging breasts. Breast enhancement surgery is an individualized surgery that should be done only to fulfill your own desires, not the wishes of anyone other than yourself.

Breast Implant Consultation

We begin the process with an in depth consultation with Dr. Yates to fully educate you about breast augmentation and the options available to best meet your needs. Consideration of the type of implants that will be used, saline vs silicone gel, style of implant, location of implants, submuscular (behind the pectoral muscle) or subglandular (behind the breast), size of implant needed to achieve the desired result will all be discussed during your visit with Dr. Yates.

Breast Implant Surgery

Breast implant surgery requires surgical placement of implants to enhance breast size. The most common insertion incisions are the inframammary route or in the crease beneath the breast. This route of insertion allows for optimal results. Through this incision a pocket is created either behind the breast or pectoral muscle, the implants are placed within this pocket and the incisions closed with sutures. The visible results are seen immediately and over time post operatively swelling will resolve and incision lines will refine. Breast implants are not meant to last a lifetime and further surgery may be required to replace one or both implants. A mammogram may be required prior to your surgery to provide a baseline for future comparison.

Breast Augmentation - The Surgical Procedure

Breast augmentation is performed as an out patient at Grandview Surgery and Laser Center of Camp Hill, a state licensed, accredited facility located within our medical complex. The procedure requires general anesthesia provided by board certified anesthesiologists (physicians) and takes 1 ½ hours. Dr. Yates brings a vast experience in breast augmentation to his patients. You will have a post operative bra type bandage that will remain in place for one week following the surgery. The stitches in the crease beneath your breasts will be removed 2 weeks following your surgery at one of your post operative visits to our office. We ask that you wear a soft, knit sports bra for 2 additional weeks. Your safety and comfort is our primary concern. Dr. Yates will perform all of your surgery. While any surgical procedure can entail risks, choosing a board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Yates can help to ensure a safe positive outcome.

Breast Surgery - Mastopexy (Lift)

Breast lift surgery can rejuvenate your figure by restoring the position and shape of your breasts. You may be a good candidate for breast lift surgery if breasts are pendulous, lack substance and firmness, and nipples and areola point downward.

Breast Lift Consultation

We begin the process with an in depth consultation with Dr. Yates. During this consultation an examination of your breasts to determine their size and shape, the skin quality and location of your nipples and areolas will be necessary.

Breast Lift Surgery

Breast lift surgery options can vary in style depending on the degree of sag, skin quality, desired outcome related to size and shape. The most common method of breast lift surgery involves three incisions. One incision is made around the pigmented portion of the nipple complex (areola). Another runs vertically from the bottom edge of the areola to the crease underneath the breast, basically an upside down "T". The third is a horizontal incision beneath the breast that follows the natural curve of the breast crease. After the excess skin is tightened and the breast tissue reshaped, the nipple and areola are shifted to a higher position. The pigmented areola which is usually stretched out in pendulous breasts can be reduced in size. In some instances liposuction may be used to adjust contour, especially on the outer sides of the breast. The nipples and areola remain attached to their nerve and blood supply in an effort to preserve sensation and the potential to breast feed.

There are modifications of this technique and Dr. Yates will make that determination and discuss the variation with you during your consultation.
