Facelift

Facelift Before Illustration. Facelift After Illustration.

Time and gravity alter facial skin and features, jaw lines soften, skin and deeper tissues lose their youthful tone and sag. The facelift and variations of the procedure can reverse the signs of aging.

Dr. James Yates performs many variations of the facelift (Rhytidectomy) including the lower facelift, mid-facelift, partial facelift and full facelift. These variations are performed by tailoring and customizing the procedure to the meet the patients' specific needs and desires. The goal of the facelift is to support and reposition the deeper structures of the face while adjusting and re-draping of the skin. The ultimate goal is a refreshed and balanced appearance. Other surgeons may offer a quick fix by simply tightening the skin, unfortunately, that can result in an unnatural, wind-blown, pulled look. There are no shortcuts, a mini-lift can result in a min-result for a mini-length of time! The procedure should be customized for each individual and the result should improve and refresh the overall facial appearance and have longevity in its results.

Facelift Consultation

We begin the process with an in depth consultation with Dr. Yates in our office to discuss your concerns, expectations, and potential risks and complications. Following an evaluation of your facial anatomy and skin quality, Dr. Yates will discuss a individualized approach to create a treatment plan of options available to best suit your needs.

Facelift Procedure

Dr. Yates performs a multi-vector, underlying support facelift. The supporting deeper tissues, the SMAS (superficial muscle aponeurotic system) is tightened, lifting the underlying muscle layers of the cheek and neck. The fat in the cheek and neck is contoured into an improved position and sculpted if necessary. The skin is then re-draped without tension and the excess tailored. The loose skin and fat of the neck are addressed if those areas need improvement. Realistic expectations are crucial concerning facial plastic surgery, we are simply turning back the hands of the clock, but it does keep on ticking. The facelift does not specifically improve skin texture or smooth out all of the wrinkles. Additional consideration of skin care, chemical peels, or lasers can further rejuvenate the facial skin. Secondary facelifts and ancillary procedures can be performed to maintain and restore a refreshed appearance. Long term gain is anywhere from 5 to 12 years.

Facelift - The Surgical Procedure

Anesthesia of varying levels is administered by board certified anesthesiologists (physicians). Your comfort and safety is always our primary concern.

Dr. Yates will perform all of the surgical procedure. While any surgical procedure entails risk, choosing an experienced facelift surgeon like Dr. Yates can help to ensure a safe outcome.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Before eyelid surgery illustration. After eyelid surgery illustration.

The eyes are our most revealing feature. They draw attention and convey expression because they are the area of conversational tone. Others will often assess our state of health, age or well being by our eyes. Heredity and age can impact what others see rather than how we feel. In general, eyelid surgery corrects excess skin and excess fat that creates puffiness and drooping lids.

Blepharoplasty - The Surgical Procedure

Eyelid surgery can take 1 to 2 hours, depending if upper and lower eyelids are done at the same procedure. Dr. Yates will perform the surgery as an out patient at Grandview Surgery and Laser Center of Camp Hill, a state licensed, accredited facility housed within our medical complex. The location of the facility enables Dr. Yates to be on site for the length of the patient's immediate recovery. If insurance coverage is applicable to your specific situation there is the potential for the procedure to be performed in a hospital setting as an out patient. Anesthesia options of varying levels are provided by board certified anesthesiologists (physicians). Your comfort and safety is always our primary concern. Dr. Yates will perform all of the surgical procedure. While any surgical procedure entails risk, choosing an experienced surgeon like Dr. Yates can help to ensure a safe outcome.

Surgery of the Nose (Rhinoplasty)

Rhinoplasty before illustration. Rhinoplasty after illustration.

Rhinoplasty, reshaping of the nose, plays a major role in defining the balance of the facial features. Cosmetic rhinoplasty or nasal surgery to correct deformities from injuries is frequently performed in conjunction with surgery to correct breathing difficulties or airway obstruction caused by trauma. Nasal size in relation to facial features, width, profile, nasal tip fullness, nasal asymmetry, are all areas that can be refined to achieve balance. Surgery of the nose is advised when facial growth is complete, around the age of 15.

Rhinoplasty Consultation

Dr. Yates will discuss at length a patient's concerns and expectations regarding their nasal surgery. Factors to consider are skin quality, degree of deformity, age and proposed changes to the external nose as well as the internal anatomy. Dr. Yates' theory of rhinoplasty surgery is that each individual deserves an original - a nose that fits the face. A review of options or possible outcomes is combined to design an individualized treatment plan.

Rhinoplasty Procedure

Rhinoplasty surgery may include alteration of the nasal bridge, reshaping of the nasal bridge, reducing the shape or width of the nose, reshaping the nasal tip, reducing the shape and width of the nostrils, adjusting the angle between the nose and the upper lip. Nasal procedures may involve bony work or attention primarily to cartilage, addition of tissue to create height or definition, or refining features that are already present. Dr. Yates performs Rhinoplasty with no external incisions whenever possible. There is potential for secondary revisions or secondary surgery to achieve the desired result. The initial swelling subsides within a few weeks, but it may take one full year for your new nasal contour to be evident.

Rhinoplasty - The Surgical Procedure

Surgery of the nose will take from 1 to 2 hours and is performed as an out patient depending on the individual procedure. Depending on the complexity of the procedure, rhinoplasty is generally performed under general anesthesia, administered by board certified anesthesiologists (physicians). Once your procedure is completed, a splint and/or nasal packing will likely be placed inside your nose, and a splint or bandages will be placed on the outside to protect the area during the initial healing, approximately one week. Dr. Yates may apply tape to the external nose for several more days. The outcome of your nasal surgery will appear gradually over time, at a minimum a year is considered normal for the final result. While any surgical procedure entails risk, choosing an experienced plastic surgeon with a conservative, artistic approach to nasal surgery like Dr. Yates can help to ensure a positive outcome.
